Thom Bateman's Nanny J's completes Leek market line-up

High Profile Local Chef Thom Bateman is bringing his pizza concept to Leek where he will join Scrumbles Cake Shop and The Slamwich Club in the rejuvenated Trestle Market. The only Michelin Guide & 3 AA rosette chef in the north of the county is also a renowned Pizza chef having worked with some of the biggest brands in the UK and Globally.
The Trestle and Butter Markets have recently undergone £3.4 million refurbishment blending modern, flexible multi-use spaces with the heritage character of the Victorian market halls.
Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said: "We're absolutely delighted to be welcoming Thom to the Trestle Market to join Scrumbles and the Slamwich Club. It means all three of the new units will be occupied offering shoppers, traders and visitors - and those hiring the Trestle Market for events - a range of food and drink options and a reason to come and spend time in Leek.
"It's fantastic that these three local, well-established and successful businesses have chosen our market for their new outlets which add to, and complement, the existing food experiences available in Leek.
"The markets are enjoying a real renaissance since re-opening in November last year - it's an absolute joy to see the halls busy and thriving and we're really proud of the improvements we've made which will ensure they continue to be at the heart of the town for decades to come."
Thom, famous for the critically-acclaimed The Flintlock at Cheddleton and Apres Restaurant, appeared on the BBC's Great British Menu earlier this year. His new venture, Nanny J's, is named after his mum who is known as Nanny J by Thom's children.
Thom said: "We are incredibly excited to be bringing Nanny J's to Leek, It is a concept that has been in the works for nearly 2 years so finding the site in the trestle market is just perfect. Leek and it's wonderful people deserve great Pizza - we are obsessed with all things Pizza so now just feels like the right time!"
Nanny J's will open later this summer
The food and drink businesses play a key role in attracting and supporting events and activities that take place in the Trestle Market. The diverse programme includes film nights, evening markets and events to mark VE Day and Pride month as well as events organised and funded by Leek Town Council either on their own or in partnership with community groups.
