Dog control

Coronavirus Update

The City Dogs Home are operating as normal but with the recommended social distancing measures.

Their opening hours are now 9am until 4pm.  We have a cut off time for collection by our operatives of 2pm.  If you have found a stray dog and it is not possible for us to collect it members of the public can take stray dogs to the facility, but please telephone first on 01782 304130.

If you have lost a dog and have discovered that it has been taken to City Dogs Home, please contact them directly.  Any fees/fines can be paid over the phone with them before collection.

If you are self isolating and cannot arrange to collect your dog within the required 7 days, please let the City Dogs Home aware of this and your dog will be held for you until you can arrange collection (some boarding fees maybe applicable, please ask the staff on duty when you phone).

What to do if you have lost your dog, or found one.

If you have lost your dog

We keep a record of all found dogs that are reported lost and found to us, so we may already have your dog listed on our dog register.

To report your dog as lost, you can contact customer services on 0345 605 3014 Monday to Friday.

We always try to return a found dog to its owner, but if we can't identify or contact its owner, we will take it to City Dogs Home. If you've confirmed with us that your dog is there, you will also need to contact the kennels directly on 01782 304130 and arrange collection. There will be a charge, which will be confirmed by the kennels.

Unclaimed stray dogs

We have a statutory duty to keep the dog in kennels for 7 days. If the dog is not claimed after this time, the owner loses all rights to it. The dog is then usually offered for re-homing.

If you find a stray dog which isn't claimed within 7 days, you may be able to keep it. The dog warden will contact you to discuss this.
