Work on new leisure centre going swimmingly
Work on the major redevelopment of the leisure centre in Leek's Brough Park is progressing with the new super structure now in place and the new pool and learner pool areas nearing completion.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is leading the £17 million project to expand and fully modernise the new health and wellbeing centre which will operate as MyActive Leek when it re-opens.
Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Cabinet member for Leisure and Tourism, visited the site to see the progress being made.
He said: "The building working is making good progress - our new centre is really taking shape now and it's looking fantastic!
"The amenities in the centre will be first-class but investing in places like this is about more than state-of-the-art fitness, swimming and leisure facilities, it's about providing services and opportunities to be active that support the health and wellbeing of everyone in Leek.
"That's what we're delivering at Brough Park and I know it will be a much-valued and well-used community asset for decades to come."
The project has been funded by £10.8 million from the UK Government, £3 million for the Council, £1.8 million from Sport England, and over £1.1 million from Salix for decarbonisation measures.
