Vice-Chairman

Biography about the Vice-Chairman of Staffordshire Moorlands.

Councillor Lyn Swindlehurst is the 2026/2027 Vice-Chairman of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.

Below is a short biography by Councillor Lyn Swindlehurst.

I am proud to serve as Vice Chairman of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council alongside our Chairman, Cllr. Linda Malyon, supporting and advocating for the people of Staffordshire Moorlands and all those who visit our district.

Having retired from a career in nursing, including serving as Head of Adult Nursing Education at the University of Wolverhampton, my professional life has always centred on care, communication, teamwork, and wellbeing. These values continue to guide and inspire me in my role as a councillor and Vice Chairman.

I am passionate about promoting health and wellbeing within our communities, encouraging strong partnerships, and working collaboratively for the benefit of residents, colleagues, and visitors alike. The Staffordshire Moorlands is a unique and welcoming district, and I am committed to helping ensure that everyone who lives here or visits experiences the warmth, character, and community spirit that make it so special.

Having previously served as Leek Town Mayor, and now undertaking my second term in that role this year, as well as previously serving as Chairman of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, I have always focused on the importance of raising money for chosen charities. The charities selected each year reflect the priorities of the role, and my chosen charities have centred on supporting the future legacy of our communities, particularly local organisations that support children and families.

These roles require commitment and time, and I am fortunate to have the support of my family, friends, and colleagues, all of whom contribute greatly to the fulfilment I gain from serving our communities. They also bring many personal rewards. The strong sense of community spirit and collaborative working across the Moorlands and beyond reinforces the pride that both the Chairman and I feel for our district and its people.

If enthusiasm is a requirement of this role—and I believe it is—then I have it in abundance. I look forward to the year ahead with commitment, energy, and excitement as I share this journey with the Chairman and all those we meet along the way.
