Plans revealed for new Brough Park play area

Published 23 December 2020

Play equipment specialists Kompan Ltd have been appointed to supply and install the exciting new play area at Brough Park in Leek - and a preview of what will be provided has now been released.

The project was given the green-light earlier this year following approval by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for wide-ranging improvements to the Park.

The appointment follows a consultation exercise, held in September, where members of the public were invited to comment on designs from four companies bidding for the project - Kompan Ltd's design won 47% of the vote and they were selected.

And the Council has now shared images showing what people can expect when work on the new play area and a multi-use games area is completed in Spring next year.

Councillor Mark Deaville, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Leisure and Sports, said: "Kompan Ltd are one the leading manufacturers of play equipment in the UK and Europe so we're delighted to announce that they will be carrying out the work in Brough Park.

"The plans for these new play and games areas in the green heart of Leek are really exciting and will offer people of all ages some new and fun experiences - something which will be a boost to us all at the end of tough year when being able to enjoy the parks, open spaces and amenities near our homes has been more important than ever.

"Being active and spending time outdoors is so important for our mental and physical wellbeing and investing in a diverse range of amenities to allow people to do that in ways they enjoy across the Moorlands is a priority for the Council. I look forward to work starting on this project and to the Spring when people will be able to use these new facilities."

The new play area is the next phase of improvements to the park following the installation of the skate park last year. It means there will be some changes to the layout with the new, bigger play area being located on the site currently occupied by the three tennis courts. The new toddler and junior play area will take up two of the courts and the brand-new games area will be installed on the third creating an 'activity zone' with the skate park.

As part of the wider investment in the park, the old multi-use games area will revert back to a tennis court and be refurbished along with the remaining court.
