'Tis the season to check your Christmas bin collections

Changes to waste and recycling collections in the Moorlands over the festive season are now available for residents to check online.

There will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day. Brown bin collections will be paused for two weeks with the last collections taking place on Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24 December, and resuming again from Thursday 8 January.

If your collections were due to fall on these dates, you can find full details of the revised collection dates via the 'find your bin day' page on the Council's website at a time to suit you. Just enter your postcode and then select your address.

Councillor Charlotte Atkins, Cabinet Member for Services, said: "Christmas is a busy time for everyone so our online bin checker means remembering any changes to your bin collections is one less thing to add to your 'to do' list.

"Our website also includes information about what to put in your bins, including the seasonal items you can recycle, as well as the details of any changes that affect you so you can check the information online whenever you need to.

"And don't forget to keep using your brown bin in readiness for collections to start again in the new year."

Please remember to empty and rinse glass, plastic bottles, tubs, pots and trays and food cans before putting them in your brown bin.

Christmas cards and envelopes can be recycled unless they feature glitter and foil and wrapping paper that stays scrunched is also accepted.

Real Christmas trees that don't exceed 6 feet in height, and have had their decorations and bases removed, will be collected on your usual collection date up to 4 February if cut up and placed in the brown bin or left at the side of it.

People in affected properties on rural collection rounds will receive a letter detailing the changes that affect them.

Anyone who can't get online can either call the contact centre on 0345 605 3014, use the iPads available for public use in the reception area at Moorlands House, or visit the Council's reception areas in Cheadle and Leek to speak to customer service advisors.

Council opening times will also be slightly different as we will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Leek reception and the call centre will close at 1pm on Christmas Eve and then be open again on 29, 30 and 31 December. Cheadle reception will be closed on 29 December and open again from 5 January. You can also access services online at anytime.
