Opportunity for food business to join Trestle Market
An exciting new opportunity for a food or drink business to join Leek's Trestle Market has arisen.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council led the £3.4 million project to rejuvenate the town's indoor markets which has seen them go from strength to strength since they re-opened a year ago.
Three food and drink units were created as part of the refurbishment. The Slamwich Club and Scrumbles Cake Shop are already operating successfully from two of the units and the third unit is now available to rent again.
Local chef Thom Bateman had planned to take the unit for his pizza concept Nanny J's but has notified the Council that, due to personal reasons, he is unable to take this forward at the present time.
The Council understands his position and has agreed to seek another business for the unit.
Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Cabinet member for Leisure and Tourism, said: "We're saddened that Thom has made the difficult decision to step away but we understand why.
"This does, however, mean that we now have an opportunity for a food business to come and join us in Leek. The markets are thriving, busy places attracting shoppers and foodies alike so it's an exciting chance to be a part of our success story."
The building now plays host to a wide range of events including evening markets, cinema screenings, live music, and larger town centre events such as the annual Christmas lights switch-on, Pride weekend and Day of the Dead, creating exciting business opportunities that go well beyond the traditional market footfall.
