Leisure centre redevelopment benefits Haregate Community Centre

The redevelopment of the leisure centre in Brough Park, Leek is set to benefit the local community in a number of ways - as staff and users at Haregate Community Centre have discovered having received a financial donation from contractors working on the project.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, working with Alliance Leisure, has engaged Speller Metcalfe to deliver the £17 million project to expand and fully modernise the new health and wellbeing centre which will operate as MyActive Leek when it re-opens.

And, as part of the company's social programme of giving back to communities they are working in, they have gifted a £500 donation to Haregate Community Centre to help with the ongoing running costs.

Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said: "The redevelopment of the leisure centre is going to be fantastic and provide communities across Leek, including Haregate, with new opportunities to move more and be more active.

"Speller Metcalfe is not only doing a terrific job and making great progress with the build, they are also supporting amenities like this community centre with grant funding. It's great to see and, I know, very much appreciated by all those who work at and use this facility."

Kate Moore, Social Value Lead, at Speller Metcalfe, explained more about the donation. She said: "We believe our projects should deliver real value beyond the build itself, leaving a positive and lasting impact on the communities we work in.

"Supporting Haregate Community Centre is one way we can contribute to the incredible work already happening locally and help ensure that vital spaces like this continue to thrive and support those that need them most."

Laura Cottingham from Haregate Community Centre added: "We would like to thank Speller Metcalfe for the generous donation towards the running of the centre. The centre is reliant on the donations of well-wishers and service users.

"Every donation is gratefully received and hugely appreciated by not only the trustees and the staff but by all those that use the centre, whether to attend the café, a community group, an activity or event, or one on one support.

"It is important to us that the centre is here for everyone and that support is always available to those that need it, and this money helps us to continue."
