The Royal British Legion has launched this year's poppy appeal to ensure the contribution of service men and women is never forgotten - and the District Council is once again supporting their fundraising efforts.
The Council re-signed the Armed Forces Covenant earlier this year which ensures that:
- those who serve, or have served, and their families do not face disadvantage in the provision of services
- special treatment is appropriate in some cases especially for those who have given the most such as the injured or bereaved
Councillor Bill Cawley, Cabinet Member for Communities, a member of the Royal British Legion and the son and grandson of World War veterans, has been appointed the Council's Armed Forces Champion.
Welcoming the launch of this year's poppy appeal, he asked that the people of the Moorlands continue to show their gratitude to the Armed Forces community:
"I know that Moorlands folk have always shown their support by wearing their poppy with pride. I appreciate that they will continue to do so in recognition of the sacrifice that so many have made in conflicts past and present.
"We at the Council are also proud to support the men and women who serve so selflessly by be re-affirming our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant - a promise by the nation to ensure that those who serve, or have served, and their families, are treated fairly.
"As a member of the Staffordshire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership we are committed to working with partners to offer help and practical support to local service personnel past and present."
