Eight new homes are set to be built on the site of a former public house which has fallen into disrepair in Cheadle.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has granted outline planning permission for the new properties on the land currently occupied by The Miners Rest building and car park on Froghall Road.
The pub is currently boarded up and in a dilapidated condition and has been closed for some time.
Councillor Edwin Wain, Cabinet Member for Planning, Development and Property, said: "With the closure of the pub, this site was lying dormant so I am pleased that we have now agreed a positive future use which will regenerate this location and see the removal of this derelict building.
"It's in an already established residential area and we know there is a need for new homes so it makes sense to provide housing here and bring the land back into beneficial use."
As this is an outline planning permission, the details of the development, including what the houses will look like, is still to be determined.
People will be able to comment on any planning applications relating to this site in the usual way.
