More chances to shop at Leek Market this Christmas

Published on 15 December 2020

With the number of shopping days left until Christmas rapidly diminishing, the announcement of additional trading dates for Leek's markets will be good news for many people.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has confirmed that the Butter and Trestle markets will be open from 8.30am to 4pm Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 December and between 8.30am and 1pm on Christmas Eve.

Councillor Edwin Wain, Cabinet Member for Planning, Development and Property, said: "This has been one the hardest years for retailers and businesses that many can remember but being able to open in the busy build up to Christmas is such a welcome boost.

"We're doing our bit to help businesses and shoppers by extending the days that the Butter and Trestle markets in Leek will be trading to encourage shoppers to the town centre.

"But it's not just the markets that will be glad to see local people out and about picking up season gifts and treats and everyday essentials.

"Our high streets need our support more than ever and we can all show them how much we value them by shopping in local centres across the Moorlands both in the run-up to Christmas and in the new year.

"We do all need to remain mindful that Covid has not gone away so please remember your face covering and hand sanitiser, and keep your distance from other shoppers, so we can all enjoy shopping locally and safely."
