People using the disabled toilet at Leek Bus Station are being urged to make sure they only use genuine RADAR keys to access the facility.
The toilets have recently re-opened following a £90,000 refurbishment by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and users need the key to access the disabled toilet.
Now the Council is asking people to make sure they're only using Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation (RADAR) keys after a key snapped in the lock making it difficult for people to exit the toilet after use.
Councillor Edwin Wain, Cabinet Member for Planning, Development and Property, said: "Reports of people being stuck in the disabled toilet are, of course, very concerning and we've acted quickly with the contractor to address this issue.
"It seems that it was partially caused by a copy or sub-standard key snapping and getting stuck in the lock so we're asking people to ensure they are only using RADAR keys. They are widely available and the official keys will enable people to access any toilet fitted with a RADAR lock not just this one at the bus station.
"We're also putting up signage explaining how to use the electronic lock so together these measures will hopefully avoid these issues recurring."
Keys are available online from sites including www.disabilityrightsuk.org and www.bluebadgecompany.co.uk and disabled people should be able to buy them VAT free.
