New location for Leek Farmer's Market from September

Published on 27 August 2020

As the Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease Leek Farmer's Market is amongst the latest much-missed amenities to be making a welcome return and, from September, it will be in a new location in the town centre.

The market, which takes place on the third Saturday of each month, is moving to a new home in Sparrow Park opposite the Nicholson Memorial to enable safety measures to be put in place and to ensure there is enough space for all stall holders.

Councillor Edwin Wain, Cabinet Member for Planning, Development and Property at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, said: "Browsing local markets and enjoying a taste of what the Moorlands has to offer is a pleasure many people have missed during lockdown so we're delighted to see events like this back on our calendars.

"The Farmer's Market showcases excellent food and drink products from the Moorlands and the surrounding area and, with many of us coming to value our local producers and businesses more than ever in recent months, it's a great opportunity for people to show their support for the traders by shopping locally.

"It's also a fantastic chance for those who have produce to sell to establish themselves in an already popular local market and we do have stalls available at the new location so please get in touch if you're interested.

"Measures will be in place to keep everyone safe but I would urge people to remember to stay apart from other shoppers, to sanitise their hands regularly and to follow the guidance put in place by stall holders."

The Farmer's Market was previously held in the Market Place along with Archer Fair's Antique and Collectors Market. The Covid-safe layout that is now in place for this market would have meant a reduction in the number of stalls at the Farmer's Market so moving locations means both markets can continue to operate safely.

Anyone interested in taking a stall should email for more information.
