Essential structural works to the pool hall at Brough Park Leisure Centre are set to start this week following the unavoidable delay caused by the Covid-19 closure earlier this year.
The project includes the reinforcement of steel column bases and beams, the replacement of the hall windows and some tile replacements and work is expected to take around 12 weeks.
Councillor Mark Deaville, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Leisure and Sports, said: "These are essential works which were due to take place earlier this year but had to be put on hold during lockdown so it's great news that we are now able to get on with this project.
"We know people have missed visiting the pool at Brough Park and we're looking forward to welcoming people back in the autumn. In the meantime, swimmers keen to return to the water before then are able to use the pools at Biddulph Valley and South Moorlands leisure centres and, from early September when it re-opens, the pool at Buxton in neighbouring High Peak.
"I'd like to thank people for their continued patience whilst this necessary work takes place."
Leisure centres across the Moorlands began a phased re-opening at the end of July in line with the Government guidance about safe operations.
A number of measures have been put in place to ensure people can enjoy the benefits of exercise whilst observing the required social distance including the spacing out of gym equipment; asking people to book ahead of visiting rather than just turning up; and relocating exercise classes to bigger rooms.
Enhanced cleaning regimes are in place, one way systems are in operation and hand sanitiser is available throughout the centres.
