Spectacular Space Scheme has Landed

Published on 22 July 2019

A summer holiday activity scheme for young people is about to kick off again for 2019.

Space 2019, driven by the Staffordshire Commissioner Matthew Ellis, aims to reduce levels of ASB reported to the police, promote personal health and social development, team building and new experiences for young people in Staffordshire and to keep communities safer.

There are a range of Space 2019 activities taking place throughout Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent during the summer holidays.

In Staffordshire Moorlands, youngsters can sign up for six weeks of unlimited use of the excellent facilities at the Leisure Centres in Biddulph, Cheadle and Leek for just £20 per person or take part in other FREE activities that are happening across the District.

They can enjoy public or fun swimming sessions, racket sports and gym access between 22 July and 30 August from 7am until 6pm on weekdays and 8am until 4pm at weekends.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is offering the discounted membership to 8-17 year olds in partnership with the Staffordshire Commissioner and LexLeisure. A total of 200 memberships are now available to buy from your local leisure centre on a first come, first served basis. Children have to be at least 14 and complete an induction to use the gym and under 14's will need to be supervised by a responsible adult.

Additionally, there are a number of other FREE activities taking place across Staffordshire Moorlands led by partners and qualified coaches. For more information visit  www.staffordshirespace.uk or download a timetable of activities at www.staffsmoorlands.gov.uk/SPACE

Cllr Mike Bowen, Cabinet Member for Communities at the Council, said: "We are delighted to be part of Space once again. The scheme, which represents excellent value for money, has been very popular in the past couple of years and this year it's fantastic news that we've worked with the LexLeisure to offer leisure facilities at such a discounted price. It's very easy for young people to become bored during the long summer holidays - this gives them something fun, healthy and positive to do with their spare time."
