Climate Change and Nature Steering Group

The Joint Climate Change and Nature Steering Group brings together members from both High Peak and Staffordshire Moorlands to influence the Climate Change Delivery Plans and Plans for Nature.

Historically, this joint group used to be two separate groups, one covering Staffordshire Moorlands and the other High Peak. The joint group reflects the collaborative approach needed to address the climate emergency.

The Climate Change and Nature Steering Group is a forum for Councillors and Officers to exchange and debate ideas, invite guest speakers to disseminate technical knowledge, inform and develop recommendations to the Executive and Cabinet and work towards the achievement of the key objectives set out below.

  • Review and agree the Councils Climate Change Strategies and action plans.
  • Monitor the progress of the Councils and the borough/district overall in meeting the commitment to achieve net zero carbon by 2030.
  • Consider how the Councils may best address the need to adapt to climate change and how best to support the recovery of nature.
  • Support and enable collaborative working across the Council and engagement with individuals, community groups, businesses, and other partners in the district, including young people who should have a voice to help shape our future.
  • Ensure that the Council's external communications reflect the high priority that the Council places on tackling climate change and nature decline, and the work it and its partners are undertaking in delivering against the challenges faced.

More information about upcoming meetings and the latest bulletin from the group will be available soon.
