Discounts for 18 or 19 year olds

The full council tax bill assumes that there are 2 adults living in a property. However, for council tax purposes, certain people will not be counted when looking at the number of adults. This may mean that the bill is reduced by 25%.

Who can claim

If you have a son or daughter aged 18 or 19, they can be 'disregarded' from paying council tax if you receive Child Benefit for him / her. This means that if you are the only liable adult in the property, your bill will be discounted by 25%.

How long does the discount last?

If your child leaves school or college between 1 May and 31 October, they will continue to be discounted until 1 November.
