Doors to open at MyActive Leek on 18 August
MyActive Leek - the Moorlands new state-of-the-art health and wellbeing centre - will re-open on Tuesday 18 August following the major redevelopment to modernise and expand the facilities at the Brough Park centre.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has led the project which, together with the rejuvenation of the town's indoor markets and the work to modernise the Nicholson Institute, forms part of a multi-million pound regeneration of Leek funded in part by the UK Government.
The construction work at the new centre is now finished and the building will be formally handed back to the Council, and its leisure partner company MyActive, at the end of this week.
The focus will then turn to preparing the centre for opening, with colleagues undertaking training on the new facilities and equipment. At the same time, MyActive will launch pre-sale memberships and open enrolment for new swimming lesson spaces.

Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said: "I'm thrilled to announce the date everyone has been waiting for and confirm that we'll be welcoming people back to this fantastic new centre on Tuesday 18 August.
"Our teams are now completing the testing phase and making preparations for opening the doors. The hoardings will be coming down but please bear with us for just a couple more weeks as our MyActive colleagues put the final measures in place.
"Investing in the highest quality facilities like those we're providing at MyActive Leek is about more than upgrading leisure centres - it's about supporting people to lead healthy, active lives that promote good physical and mental wellbeing. That's what we'll be delivering here in Leek for all our residents across the Moorlands and I cannot wait to share this amazing new centre with everyone.

Alongside the physical improvements to the building and the facilities it hosts, the Council has also worked with Sport England on the innovative Active Environments development in the area outside the centre.
New outdoor gym equipment is being installed alongside a pétanque court, table tennis tables, a chess board, and other features including Active Trail signage. These facilities will be open from the end of July when the outdoor work is complete.
Table tennis bats and balls and pétanque balls will be available to hire from the centre from August but anyone with their own equipment is welcome to use the amenities when they open.
The redevelopment has been funded by UK Government, the District Council, Sport England through the National Lottery, and Salix who are helping to fund the decarbonisation measures.
