£5,000 grant to recruit and train an apprentice

Thanks to a collaboration between Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and Staffordshire County Council's successful bid to the government's UK Community Renewal Fund, you can now get a grant up to £5,000 to recruit and train an apprentice. This grant is one of the first of its kind in the country.

The Apprenticeship 500 grant grant can be used to cover any costs associated with recruiting and retaining an apprentice and can be used alongside current available government grant schemes.

To be eligible for the £5,000 grant:

  • Your business must be based in Staffordshire
  • You cannot have already received grant payments that equal the maximum permitted levels of subsidy
  • Your business must have been viable in December 2019.
  • Your business must be registered with Companies House and employee less than 250 people, i.e. you must be an SME and can't be a sole trader as you need to be eligible for government funding to pay for the apprenticeship training.

What can you use the £5,000 grant on?

The grant can be used to cover any costs associated with recruiting and retaining and apprentice and can be used alongside the current available government grant schemes. The only requirement is for you is to illustrate how your considered or tried to keep trading during the COVID-19 restriction periods, and how recruiting an apprentice will support your recovery or growth.
