Self-Isolation Support Payment

We are currently dealing with a high number of test and trace support payment applications which has resulted in longer processing times. We are working through the applications as quickly as we can and will contact you with a decision as soon as possible.

Please make sure you read the information below before you apply - We are receiving a large number of unsuccessful applications from people who do not meet the criteria.

Since 28th September anyone testing positive for COVID-19 or who has been contacted through the NHS test and trace will need to self-isolate by law.


What are Self-Isolation Payments?

 If you are on a low income and can't work from home while you have to self-isolate, you may be entitled to a payment of £500 under the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme.

The 8-digit code is sometimes also referred to as a CTAS number. If you test positive for coronavirus, or are told to self-isolate by contact tracers, you will be provided with the 8 digit number or Account ID.


Getting your number from the app

If the NHS COVID-19 App has told you to self-isolate because you've been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus, you will need to follow some steps to request your Account ID. You must do this while you are in your self-isolation period. You cannot request your Account ID after you've finished self-isolating.

To start the process, select 'Financial support'. This button appears on the home screen of the app when you've been told to self-isolate because you've been in close contact with someone who has coronavirus. You'll then be taken to a website which will ask you for some information to check whether you could be eligible. If your answers show that you may be eligible for the NHS Test and Trace Support Payment, there are 4 steps to apply for the payment.

Step 1 - Confirm who you are with NHS login

You need to log in or register with NHS login - if you are registering, you will receive a confirmation link in an email. When you read the email, make sure you keep the existing screen open so that you can continue to the next step.

Step 2 - Enter personal details

You will be asked to enter your name so that NHS Test and Trace can carry out some checks.

Step 3 - Register with NHS Test and Trace

You will get an email and text message from NHS Test and Trace within one hour.  Communication hours are between 7.30 am to 8.30 pm. If you register outside of these hours, there may be a delay in receipt of the email or text message until opening hours resume. These messages will include a link which you need to follow to complete your registration with NHS Test and Trace. You must do this while you are still in your self-isolation period.

You will not be able to apply for the NHS Test and Trace Support Payment without completing this step.

Once you have completed your registration, you will receive a final confirmation email and text message from NHS Test and Trace.

Step 4 - Apply online below

If you have had difficulty getting the CTAS number,  or have lost it you can still apply, however we will need to confirm with the NHS that you are eligible before we can make a payment.


Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for an award you must have been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app because you have tested positive for COVID-19; OR have been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app because you have been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive, and are not fully vaccinated.

You must also satisfy the following criteria:-

  • live in Staffordshire Moorlands
  • be employed or self-employed;
  • be unable to work from home and will lose income as a result of self-isolating
  • currently receive, or are the partner in the same household as someone who is receiving, at least one of the following benefits
    • Universal Credit
    • Working Tax Credit
    • income-based Employment and Support Allowance
    • income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Income Support
    • Housing Benefit
    • Pension Credit
  • make a claim within 42 days of the first day of your self-isolation

You must meet all of the above criteria to be eligible for a payment

Before you make an application make sure you have the following information to hand:

  • your national insurance number
  • your full name
  • your date or birth
  • your contact telephone numbers including a working mobile number
  • full names, dates of birth and national insurance numbers for everyone living in your household
  • your current full address and postcode
  • details of benefits you receive and how much you get
  • proof of your employment
  • proof of self-employment e.g. recent business bank statement (within the last two months), most recent set of accounts or evidence of self-assessment returns
  • your unique ID number as provided by NHS Test and Trace
  • notification from NHS Test and Trace asking you to self-isolate
  • your bank statement (one issued within the last two months which must clearly show proof of earnings

Parent / guardian applications if your child needs to self-isolate

A parent or guardian of a young person who is required to self-isolate may be eligible for a payment if they live in England and meet the following criteria (even if they are fully vaccinated):

  • they are the parent or guardian of a young person in the same household who is self-isolating and need to take time off work to care for them
  • they are unable to work from home and will lose income;
  • the young person has:
    • tested positive for COVID-19 and is aged 15 or under, or aged 25 or under with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan
    • been identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19 (by NHS Test and Trace, their education or care setting or the NHS COVID-19 app), is aged 18-25, is not fully vaccinated and has an EHC Plan
  • the young person normally attends an education or care setting; and
  • the parent or guardian meets all the other criteria for a main payment.

When completing the form you will need to provide:

  • your child's eight-digit NHS Test and Trace ID number if they have received notification directly from NHS Test and Trace telling them to self-isolate OR
  • a communication from the child or young person's education or child care setting confirming that they have to self-isolate OR
  • a screenshot of their NHS COVID-19 App notification telling them to self-isolate AND evidence that they have an Education, Health and Care Plan.

If you are not in receipt of an eligible benefit Discretionary payments are also available for people on low incomes who may still face hardship as a result of the requirement to self-isolate.

Discretionary Support Payment Scheme

If you are not receiving one of these benefits but are on a low income and self-isolation will cause you hardship, you may still be entitled to a payment of £500 under the Discretionary Support Payment Scheme. Please see details for this scheme under the heading below.


Fraud

You may face prosecution if you have manipulated or falsified your position in order to obtain these payments, including failure to self-isolate which puts others at risk. Any payment made as a result of fraud may be subject to claw back, as may any grants paid in error.

The Government is supporting Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to make the necessary checks to ensure payments can be verified and have been made correctly.
