Plastic Thinking Workshop to coincide with Worldwide Plastic Day

Did you know that.... We have been using plastics for more than 100 years, but our use has risen dramatically since the 1970s. In 2015, over 300 million tons of plastic was produced globally which consumed approximately 8% of global oil production. Plastic pollution is estimated to cost the lives of 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals every year. These are just some of the many reasons to review your use of plastic and the management of plastic waste.

The workshop is aimed at businesses that want to understand the environmental issues of plastic and be able to make a "business case" regarding their use of plastic. The workshop is based on environmental science and principles of environmental auditing and will show businesses how to integrate their plastic improvements within their environmental management system.

The principles of life cycle thinking, design for the environment and waste minimisation are transferrable to any other consumable resource used by an organisation, and will help a company to:

  • Demonstrate compliance with legal and other requirements
  • Promote sustainability throughout their supply chain
  • Save money through material efficiency savings and waste reduction

This course will be useful to you if you need to:

  • Understand the plastic problem
  • Develop skills to prioritise the impacts of plastic
  • Apply sound environmental management principles to the use of plastic throughout your organisation

The workshop will cover:

  1. Putting the plastic issue into context - what are the environmental impacts and benefits of plastic?
