Report abandoned vehicles

We can investigate any abandoned vehicles that are not taxed.

What we mean by 'abandoned'

It is likely that a vehicle is abandoned if:

  • it has no keeper on the DVLA's database and is untaxed
  • it is stationary for a significant amount of time
  • it is significantly damaged, run down or unroadworthy - with flat tyres, wheels removed or broken windows
  • is burned out
  • has number plates missing

Vehicles are not classed as 'abandoned' simply because they have been parked in the same place for a few days.

Vehicles on parking restrictions such as yellow lines should be reported to Staffordshire County Council., but other vehicles causing an obstruction should be reported to the Police directly.

How do I find out if a vehicle is taxed?

You can check this online.

You'll need the:

  • the make of the vehicle
  • number plate (registration number) of the vehicle

Report an abandoned vehicle

We can only investigate reports of abandoned vehicles if full details are given.

We'll need:

  • the registration number
  • make and model of the car
  • where it is
  • how long it has been there
  • the condition of the vehicle

If you have all of the details above, report the problem to us and we start our investigations. Once the investigation is complete if the vehicle is confirmed as abandoned it is usually removed within 10 days.

If you are the owner of a vehicle that has been stickered as abandoned please contact us.
