Platinum Jubilee

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

On 6 February 2022, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. To mark The Queen's historic 70-year reign, 2022 will see Platinum Jubilee celebrations throughout the UK and the Commonwealth as part of a year-long programme of events.  An extended bank holiday weekend from, Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, will create an opportunity for people to take part in the nationwide celebrations to mark this historic milestone.

The Council's Queen's Platinum Jubilee Grant Fund

To support communities to hold their own events and activities the Council has created the Queen's Platinum Jubilee grant fund totalling £20,000.  The grant must be used to hold an event or activity directly related to Queen's Platinum Jubilee or for preparations leading up to an event taking place during the bank holiday weekend.

Grants are available to every parish or town council in the District.  Parish and town councils may wish to make a joint application or the fund can be available to community groups where the town/parish council gives its support to the application.

Application forms for grants can be submitted from 23 February 2022.

Road Closures and Licensing

If you are planning to close a road you will still need to apply for a Road Closure Order 12 weeks in advance of the event, ie by mid March 2022, so that the Highways Authority and Police can be consulted to ensure that there will be no undue impact on traffic management.

Other activities such as charitable collections, sale of alcohol and playing amplified music may also require a licence.
