Marshes Hill is a small remnant of a once extensive heathland that covered the surrounding agricultural land. Now an island of heathland, the site is an important habitat and valuable for wildlife and conservation. A level path along the western side of the site leads to fine viewpoint. The alternative steeper path leads up to the highest point on the Common and commanding views over the surrounding countryside. It is a Site of Biological Importance, recognition of its importance within the County.
