Playing Field to look best for national celebration
PLAY equipment on a village playing field has been given a fresh coat of paint in readiness for a nationwide event on Friday (August 6).
Brown Edge Playing Field, managed by the Parish Council, was a hive of activity on Wednesday (July 28) as a seven-member team from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and the Probation Service's Community Payback painted four goal posts, a pair of basketball posts, two sets of swings, a brace of benches and a see-saw in preparation for activities planned for national Play Day.
What is more, the team made such good time that it was able to litter pick the field and remove the small amount of graffiti daubed on the youth shelter. Pleasingly, there was no other evidence of damage to or misuse of the shelter.
Now, the district council's small sweeper vehicle is to visit the site to remove some loose gravel from the path.
Said Cllr Gill Burton, district council portfolio holder for communities: "The play equipment now looks great and will be at its best, not only for Play Day but hopefully for years to come".
The latest in a series of Community Action Days, the event was timed to coincide with the district council's three-month Keeping the Staffordshire Moorlands Clean campaign, which aims to involve the whole community in combating environmental crimes such as littering, fly tipping and dog fouling.
