Walk to Water is a project that is dedicated to offering free green exercise activities in the Haregate area of Leek. The £90,000 project is funded by Natural England. The project will work in partnership with the Primary Care Trust, Severn Trent Water, Natural England and Staffordshire County Council. It will work alongside local groups such as Borderland Voices, Haregate Residents Association and Rethink.
The project has a focus on a footpath that links Tittesworth Avenue to Tittesworth reservoir. The path starts along an existing right of way and then joins Severn Trent path near the reservoir dam. The route is around 3 miles long and takes around an hour to an hour and a half to walk. Take a look at our Walk to Water map to see the route.
We are working towards improving the footpath to make it more accessible. To do this we have changed the stiles to Kissing gates, added benches and have put in boardwalks in along muddy areas.
Green Exercise is any informal physical activity that takes us outside to do it - such as gardening, walking, cycling and conservation work. Activities will be offered in and around Haregate and at Tittesworth with the aim of getting residents to increase the amount of physical activity that they do.
Activities offered thoughout the programme will include:
