Staffordshire Moorlands District Council

The Equality Act 2006 places a statutory duty on all public authorities, to have due regard to the need to:

• Eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment
• Promote equality of opportunity between men and women.
  

This is known as 'the general duty' and will come into effect on 6 April 2007.

In order to comply with the Equality Act 2006, SMDC must adopt a Gender Equality Scheme and a Transsexual, Transgender and Gender Reassignment Policy.

Cabinet have agreed SMDC's policies, and these have now been published.
