Housing Standards

The Housing Standards Team provide a variety of services to improve the quality of private housing within the District. We can provide help and assistance whether you are a tenant worried about the state of the property in which you live or a landlord who would like some advice and assistance on any aspect of private renting.

Our service includes:

  • Investigating property complaints by inspecting properties using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System to ensure they are suitable for occupation.
  • Promoting good property and management standards by encouraging landlords to join our Landlord Accreditation Scheme.
  • Issuing licenses for, and inspecting, houses in multiple occupation.
  • Processing licence applications for caravan sites and inspecting sites to ensure all required legislation and good practice is adhered to.
  • Process mandatory disabled facilities grants which are provided for a range of home adaptations that help disabled people live more independently in their own homes.
  • A new initiative called kickstart, which offers free unbiased advice, practical help and financial assistance to homeowners who want to make their homes a better place to live in.
  •  Addressing empty properties trying to bring them back into use.
