Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's Parks and Countryside Service works to protect the cultural and natural qualities of the Staffordshire Moorlands countryside and provide for the recreational needs of residents and visitors with parks and green spaces and countryside access.
We look after 9 countryside sites covering 180 hectares/444acres of land, 6km/4 miles of recreational former railway at two locations and 192km/120 miles of public rights of way promoted as the Staffordshire Moorlands Walks, Manifold Walks and Country Park Trails.
In Leek and Biddulph we provide town recreational space totaling more than 90 hectares (222 acres). This includes Brough Park and Birch Gardens in Leek (14.5 hectares / 36 acres); five playing field sites (26.5 hectares / 65 acres); twelve recreation grounds (17 hectares / 42 acres) and numerous other smaller sites and incidental open space (30 hectares / 74 acres). Additionally the Service is responsible for the Leek cemeteries and an increasing number of closed church yards.
